I have just finished reading this amazing book. I knew Jane from high school, and was actually one of the girls who went to see her in hospital. This book shows a side of Jane I remember so well, her caring, loving ways. Never could she see the bad, like on rainy days waiting for the rainbow! The story is beautifully written, straight from the heart. I’ve laughed so hard that I woke my family on occasion. On another I sobbed so hard I could hardly breathe. It’s written with the love that all 3 girls were showered with in their early years. A family’s bond, so strong that nothing was to tear them apart. The principals of always sticking together, the love and discipline kept this family holding onto each other for all it’s worth. The weight that Karen and Tracy have had to carry is more than any child should have to endure. Being able to share such intimate moments is very brave and for that Tracy, I salute you.
Every day you hear the talk of people’s hardships, but maybe it’s time we stop being so concerned for ourselves and listen to the whispers of the Angels here on earth.
I never knew of the hardships the family had faced and it saddens me to think that I called myself her friend, but knowing Jane she would laugh at me and say something quirky.
Beautiful from the inside, an Angel sent to teach us all a lesson, we just need to listen.
Rest In Peace my special friend. Fly high with the butterflies.

My name isJane eBook Tracy Badenhorst Reviews
Definitely a page-turning tear-jerker. Written very plain and simple but lovingly.
I had trouble understanding the medical system--even though Tracy said at the end that in "this decade" she would have been better taken care of with medical advances. There were too many bad decisions made by medical personelle during times when I know care is good hospitals in the US would have been better.
I also had trouble understand the father's behavior, although he seemed to come through in the end.
Heartbreaking, I dare you to read this book and not cry your heart out. This has to be the saddest book I ever read. There is a life lesson though, life is not prefect, sometimes life throw us a curveball and we have to adapt to it. This book is a excellent example of a mothers/family love and the trails and tribulations they went through in dealing with daughter/sister illness. Highly recommend this book along with a box of tissues.
From the first sentence I read I couldn't hardly put it down...I was hooked! Tracy Badenhorst did such a wonderful job in telling the story of her much beloved sister Jane. Jane became sick, but the doctors never knew what was wrong. The pain & things that Jane went through was horrible, but she kept her faith & not only her spirits, but the spirits of her whole family. Each family member went through their own pain & problems, but did so with the grace that Jane faced her problems. I gave this book a rating of 5 stars because Tracy told the story with such honesty, sometimes raw honesty and that's what made it so interesting to me. The story kept my attention, I laughed & cried with them. I feel that everyone should read the journey that Jane and her whole family took. This is not a book you want to miss reading, please get it and go on this journey with this wonderful, loving family!!
This rather long tale would be incomplete without every detail. To truly show the beautiful facets of her sister Jane's personality, amazing recall brought forth detail of daily life for this family. So much grief, triumph, happiness. You will be rooting for this family from your living room, growling in indignation into your morning coffee, and kissing your children's foreheads with gratitude after reading this moving tale.
*Spoiler alert*
What an amazing book. I haven't read a book that evoked so many emotions in years. Jane was such an inspiring beautiful person. This book made me rethink my problems and made them seem minuscule in comparison. What a brave person she was. I admire Jane's strength to have endured so many hardships with her health, and still remain so positive about life. Jane was so lucky to have such a lovely caring family and it goes without saying that Jane made their lives equally special. Thank you Tracy for sharing Jane's story. It's one I will never forget. I'm sorry for your loss and I wish you and your family nothing but happiness. xo
Normally, I dock a star or two when a book needs a lot of editing. But learning about Jane has ground my complaining - silent and not so silent - to a halt. I don't just have it good, I have it GREAT! No matter the signs of aging (like Jane, I was born in 1970) in my body, no matter that the locale where I live isn't perfect, no matter, no matter, no matter. If Jane can experience everything she experienced and remain positive and full of faith, what the heck is wrong with ME?
So, I'm willing to give Tracy some grace RE all the grammatical and punctuation errors in the book. Besides, I'm sure her main intention was to inspire people by sharing Jane's story, not to earn "author of the year." She sure inspired me. Not only to quit complaining and to TRULY begin counting my blessings, but also to be a more selfless mother.
The reason I'm giving her 4 and not 5 stars is that some of the details Tracy shares about herself and non-Jane family members could have been more succinct, enough to give us an idea of how it related to Jane either at the time or later. I would have written Jane's story, glossing over the other sub-plots that didn't directly relate to her illness and recovery, and then write another memoir about the family in general where I would flesh out all those sub-plots. But, I wasn't the author, and Tracy did what she did. If you enjoy memoirs, and are not too sensitive to encounter multiple life-or-death situations, I recommend this for the inspiration of how to persevere in troubling circumstances.
